Millennial is a PRX and Radiotopia podcast, hosted by me, Megan Tan. It’s a bi-monthly show that strives to tell sincere, honest, narrative-driven stories about coming of age. Our goal is to be an evolving audio journal about growing up where we move people at the least, and make people want to change or take action at the most.

It started in the closet of my home, you can listen to its evolution in the first season. In 2015 and 2016 the Atlantic ranked it on its list of top 50 podcasts.

Millennial is an independent show and company, which means, we’re scrappy and start-upy. We’re looking for someone who is ambitious, curious, enthusiastic about audio, who isn’t afraid to get into the weeds of production and is willing to create the rules as we go. Millennial is a small, small team (aka it would be you and I in a room) so high enthusiasm, and new fresh ideas go a long way.

The studio is based in my closet but the Millennial office is located in downtown Portland, Maine.

This producer position is a one-year contract. It will be 30-40 hours/week. There will be a check-in after six months.

First preference will be given to people who can work and live in Portland but we're also considering working with people remotely.

What You’ll Do:

Research and pitch stories
Pre-interview and interview guests
Create rough cuts for episodes
Give feedback on drafts of episodes
Cut tape using Reaper
Answer emails
Fact-check scripts
Manage Millennial’s website
Manage Millennial’s social media

What You’ll Have:

A developed understanding of narrative story structure and character development
Experience pitching stories and tracking down leads
Knowledge base of working with an editing software (audio or video)
A willingness to work with a small two-person team and step in wherever there’s a need
Experience meeting tight deadlines
Audio mixing/engineering skills (HUGE plus but not a requirement)
Enthusiasm for the show

What You’ll Submit:

1) Resumé
2) Cover Letter
3) A Work Sample that you’re proud of and short explanation of your role in its creation
4) A Story Pitch that would be a good fit for the show and has a narrative arch with characters
5) A few sentences of a totally new idea or concept you think would be cool if the show tried. It can be a segment idea, something additional for the website, a social media experiment, etc.

Deadline is April 30th at midnight EST.
